new goods from rifle paper co.

we wanted to follow up on our previous post and show a few more snapshots of one our newest paper lines, rifle paper co. it wasn't too long ago that anna and nathan bond opened their (internet) doors, and ever since, we've been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to purchase their wares for the shop. anna designs vintage-inspired stationery incorporating her own illustrations, and the sentiments range from small:

tiny naturescapes by polli

we love our jewels around here, and we are always on the lookout for cool new lines to carry in the shop. about six months ago we picked up a new line of jewelry from australia called polli, and we are absolutely in love with these intricate organic shapes. we each have a set of earrings and a necklace, and it's hard not to snag more! the piece that first caught our attention was their iconic elm necklace:

i mean, holy moly, who wouldn't love this stunning tree?

or these earrings, a personal favorite, with little birds perched on the tree branches?

one of the coolest things about polli is that the shapes are etched from stainless steel, which allows for the high degree of detail and the incredible weightlessness of the work. (all of the chains and the earring hooks are sterling silver, fyi.) just this past week we got a new box of polli goodies, complete with a chocolately caramel australian treat that was a welcome delight on a thursday afternoon. i saw the new designs at the gift show in august (where they also hand out chocolatey caramel australian treats), and it was so exciting to get the new work in the shop. here are a few of our faves from the new additions:

this is a more compact and robust version of the popular succulent pendant. i love the way this piece evokes a lush, squishy-leaved plant but is also really light and delicate.

how lovely is this necklace, called magnolia? it's a little bit of a departure from polli's usual shapes and is so sweet with the two little birdies sitting side by side. when it comes to earrings, we couldn't resist these tiny saplings:

the only downside to this post is that even these photographs, graciously lent by polli, just can't do these babies justice, which means you'll just have to come check them out for yourself. you won't be disappointed, i promise. xoxo, jessica

new twisty treasures!

hello hello, peeps! right now we're really excited about one of the new lines we picked up in february, modern-twist. they make these incredible fabric boxes, based on a vintage japanese design, that twist open and closed.


not only are the mechanics of these little boxes amazing, but the patterns are pretty sweet, too. i love the pebble pattern pictured above, and the squirrel has been a big hit. (he's available in orange as well.)


to make them even cooler, there's a little sachet in the bottom of each twist! they're good for storing jewelry, medicine, and many other tiny treasures. i love seeing mine sitting on my dresser everyday -- it's an example of an amazingly executed but simple design.

while the itty-bitty hide boxes have been a fast favorite, we also carry the larger hide box II, a great jewelry box with a more straightforward box & lid approach, and the pj pocket pillow in a fun orange elephant all-over pattern.


beyond the boxes, modern-twist also makes some super cool coaster sets that we just got in. these babies have been flying off our shelves! they are made from silicone, and you can actually write on them with ballpoint pen and erase, so they're handy as informal placecards or for keeping track of your drink.


we love that modern-twist integrates old and new design, organic motifs, and a commitment to responsible manufacturing practices. and they're beautiful to boot! ciao for now, j.

round 2 of holly aiken clutches

not too long ago we received our follow up order of holly aiken blast clutches including some new color combos for us: red and black, sand and brown and purple and green. the cool thing about these clutches is how simple they are. two snaps, no fuss and strong as all get out. holly's bags are also super cool so come check ‘em all out. made in raleigh, nc from naugahyde in lots-o-color combos.

new foxy and winston harvest mice!

to say that i love foxy and winston is only partially true. i really, really love foxy and winston. we've carried jane's cards, baby tees, and onesies for a few years now, and she just keeps doing amazing work in her brooklyn studio. luckily suzannah usually gets us girls extra special holiday treats, so i am the proud owner of a porcupine tshirt and a hedgie silkscreen print. (and a delightful guinea pig print from my sister.) here in the store we just got a big batch of foxy and winston's newest cards, the harvest mice series. have you ever seen anything so cute? my guess is that the only honest answer you can give is a resounding no.


i encourage my reader to carefully examine the details of these nicely rotund little creatures with bespeckled little bellies and clad in the occasional party hat or boatneck sailor shirt. we have just crossed over into "painfully cute" territory, and i plan on staying for awhile.



not only are these mice sure to brighten the day of any of your correspondents, but they're also hand screen printed on 100% recycled paper. now we know why our pal on the left is sporting a "yay!" sign. stop in and visit the harvest mice (and their other foxy and winston pals) soon! ciao for now, j.

just in...french bull!

most recently we received a whole slew of new melamine from french bull! we've carried french bull for several years and are excited that they are introducing new shapes and patterns in their fun housewares collection. the newest members of the french bull pack are canister sets, sippy cups, and a miniature version of the already popular nesting tupperware. the canisters are super airtight, so they're great for all manner of edibles. suzannah is going to use her new polka dot set in her recently revamped office to store various and sundry items. jessica will use hers (the classic black and white vine) to store sophie the pug's favorite treats. we're also really enamored with the new sets of tupperware, which are slightly smaller than the original version, and which are great for toting the baby's cheerios or as an alternative to your bag lunch.

a box of goodness from fluffy co!

exciting new arrivals at the store today -- a big box of fluffy co vegan goods from san francisco! we've carried their wallets and ipod cases for several years now, and we're excited about their new line of kids tshirts, called fluffy kids. the shirts are super soft and comfy for little ones and feature a lot of classic fluffy images, like bikes and birds.

they also debuted another new product at the gift fair in february, some really snazzy passport cases. we're super excited about these because it is too hard to find ones that are functional, hip, and affordable. more of the classic mini wallets and checkbook covers are back in stock, too, including the retro muscle car and the forest silhouette. one of the reasons we love fluffy is that they combine amazing design with ethics we can get behind. not only are their wallets made from vegan naugahyde, but all of their products are made in the u.s. yay for fluffy! ciao for now, j.
